how does SSM work?
There are three modes of execution for the SSM: Administrative, Client and Local (via CD or local directory). The Administrative Mode is used on the server, and enables the Client Mode of operation. This involves setting permissions and building an encrypted password file. The Client Mode is the primary operating mode for the SSM. This mode is the normal silent operation mode on the client computers and can be executed from a logon script, a software distribution mechanism, or other software execution methods. This mode of operation does not require any user interaction for the driver updates. Local Mode combines Administrative and Client Modes on a local machine and requires the user to be the administrator on the machine (in Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 95, all users are administrators on their own machines). In this mode, all updates affect the single unit the tool is executed on. Refer to the System Software Manager Architecture Diagram.
SSM provides support for the following:
Installing and upgrading drivers for PCI, Plug and Play (PnP) cards, and System ROM in post Operating System installation environment.
Detection and upgrade/installation of drivers, system agents, and system ROM on multiple clients simultaneously.
Windows XP/Windows 2000/Windows NT4.0/Windows ME/Windows 98/Windows 95 clients.
Integration with a variety of software delivery mechanisms. The mechanisms can include the execution via a logon script, software distribution application, email, or local execution.
SSM supports deliverables that are packaged using a new SoftPaq format. The utility performs upgrades on systems that are running Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows ME, Windows 98, and Windows 95 in a networked Windows environment. All updates on the clients take place silently and unattended. The only user interaction exists on the server and is used to set up the operation of SSM on the clients.
how is the update accomplished?
The update, or administration on the server, is accomplished through the use of a System Software Manager Wizard. The administrator is presented with a series of screens that, upon completion, build the software update database. The Client Mode uses this information to update client systems with the latest software versions. The database is built based on the SoftPaq files that are stored in the File Store directory.
how do I know what was updated?
When the update is complete, a Log File is generated by SSM and stored in a temporary directory on the client (unless redirected to a central location or suppressed via command line switches). The log file contains detailed information such as:
Date and time when SSM was run.
Possible Updates: furnishes the device identifiers and update packages that have been found in the database that could potentially be updated on the client system.
Updates: lists the devices and update packages used to update the client system.
Errors: errors that occurred during the detection and upgrade process are generated only if errors occurred. If no errors occurred during the update, this section of the log is not created.
Client Information: provides information regarding the Machine ID, System ROM information (family, version, date, etc.), System Serial Number, Asset Tag information, Operating System and Operating System Language. It is intended to give administrators background information about the client system.
Detected Devices: contains a list of PnP/PCI IDs for each of the devices found in the system, ROM name and date and the system identifier.
As with any report that presents completion status data, the Log File enables the user, or administrator, to determine the status quickly. 官方的.exe文件包含两个BIOS,刷的时候根据系统ID决定刷哪一个 支持折腾
