解决Vista和Symantec Endpoint的不兼容问题！
在Vista中安装Symantec Endpoint后，有些机器会出现不兼容现象，桌面上会不断收到错误信息 Run time error，和SMC.exe有关。我的笔记本上预装了VISTA Ultimate版本，安装endpoint每次都碰到这个问题，重装依然。后来查symantec的论坛和knowledge base，总算发现了官方的解决方案，看到坛子里的同志也有这个困惑，现翻译如下，供大家参考：1. 在安全中心里完全关闭Windows firewall，重新启动，SEP应该可以恢复正常，原因：windows firewall 和Symantec Endpoint 同时启动了网络主动型威胁防护（NTP），引起了冲突，导致Symantec Endpoint 的网络主动型威胁防护不能正常启动。另外"teefer2" 驱动可以启动，但是在网络主动型威胁防护（NTP）功能无法在Symantec Endpoint 的控制面板上正常设置。
2. symantec论坛还建议，在关闭Windows firewall之后如果还有问题，可以尝试禁用Windows Defender，首先在安全中心里，配置关闭Windows Defender，然后在服务中，找到windows Defender一项，并禁用windows Defender。

You receive errors relating to "SMC.exe" during startup on Windows Vista and the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP)11.0 icon does not display in the taskbarQuestion/Issue:
Why is Windows Vista showing an error messages relating to SMC.exe during startup after installation of SEP 11.0 .0?
Symptoms: [*]The messages received during startup will be similar to: "A program can't display a message on your desktop" or "Symantec CMC Smc stopped working and was closed"[*]You may also receive a "Runtime error" relating to "SMC.exe"[*]In addition to this, the following may be logged in the "Application Event Viewer logs":
"Faulting application Smc.exe, version 11.x.x.x time stamp XXXXXX, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, timestamp XXXXXXX, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00061635, process id 0x694, application start time XXXXXXXXX"[*]You may also notice that the SEP 11.0 Shield icon will not display in the Taskbar, however the SEP 11.0 console is still accessible via the Start Menu.[*]When you open the SEP 11.0 console and view the 'Status' page, "Network Threat Protection" is not listed, even though it was configured to be installed.[*]
Cause:
This is a conflict caused by having the Windows Firewall enabled as well as Network Threat Protection (NTP). It is preventing NTP from correctly starting. The "teefer2" driver will successfully start, but NTP functionality is not configurable via the SEP 11.0 console.
Solution:
To correct this issue, follow the below: [*]Turn Off/Disable the Windows Firewall and reboot the machine.[*]After rebooting, the SEP 11.0 icon should display in the taskbar and NTP should be listed on the SEP 11.0 Client's 'Status' page.

你肯定你装过吗？
我装了4遍了，每次都是恢复盘恢复后直接装的，首先endpoint根本就没有提示过关defender，其次windows firewall 应该是由endpoint接手并关闭。不需要先人工关闭的，安装事项可看了4~5遍，真有特殊要求，早就会留意的。
另外在XP的sp2机器上装过2台，直接默认安装，没有任何问题，这两台XP的sp2里都有Windows Defender和windows firewall，如果真像你说的那样，为什么Xp上不出问题。
Endpoint在Vista机器上装，似乎不是每台都会有问题，应该说可能有5~10%左右的几率在正常安装的时候会出现SMC.exe故障，可能和机器上预装的软件以及软件环境有关，只是没时间慢慢查了。
另外，给楼上一句话，自己没试过的，不要想当然。
Symantec 给的不是完美解决方案，VISTA无法用正常的方式卸载Defender和firewall，smc.exe的问题在windows更新之后，还会继续出来的，我也碰到了。那怕是卸了旧版本装最新的Endpoint MR2版本。 Posted by davidwjb on 2008-5-8 16:30 http://www.ibmnb.com/images/common/back.gif

MR1和MR2我都装过在安装过程中确实会提示是否关闭Windows Defender （关了就别想开了，除非卸了SEP）包括 Norton AntiBot都会提示是否关闭Windows
Defender （框框默认都是打了钩子的）

我也提示了，好像也自动关闭了。 拜托，出现SMC问题，主要原因是Windows Firewall，不是Defender，我口误说错了，应该是说没有禁用Firewall的选项
